Coaching is imperative for key executives to continue to grow and be challenged. And, it’s best done by professionals who have sat in the CEO seat.

The first time I presented our daughter, Lindsay Petty Wattam, with a bouquet of flowers, she was in 5th grade. She was being honored with the school’s special citizenship and leadership award. It would be almost 25 years before I would get to do it again and it was truly a special “Mom Moment!”

Dr. Patrick Hwu, CEO of Moffitt Cancer Center, used this familiar example to drive home how important focused self-care is for those who strive to be strong leaders, individuals committed to supporting others and helping them be successful. He clearly understands that only by adhering to consistent self-care can one be positioned to pursue the most ambitious goals in work and life. 

Recently, I had the privilege of facilitating a leadership development program for the St. Petersburg Area Chamber of Commerce Leadership St. Pete® Class of 2021. This gave me an opportunity to examine leadership, and leadership styles, in a unique way.
